Counseling
Our approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized. We meet you where you are and work together toward where you want to go.
You bring your story. We bring clinical expertise. Together, we find a path forward.
A Different Kind of Therapy
You don't have to figure everything out alone.
At Solu Counseling & Consulting, we believe therapy is a place to slow down, make sense of what you're experiencing, and discover a way forward. Whether you are navigating anxiety, trauma, difficult relationships, parenting challenges, emotional struggles, or simply feel stuck, you deserve a space where you can feel safe, understood, and supported.
Therapy isn't about someone telling you how to live your life.
At Solu, we see the counselor as a guide rather than a director. Drawing from the spirit of Motivational Interviewing, we believe you are the expert on your own life. Our role is to help you explore what matters to you, understand what may be getting in the way, recognize your strengths, and move toward the changes you want to make.
-
There isn't one right way to do therapy.
Your counseling experience will be shaped by your goals, needs, developmental level, personality, and circumstances.
Depending on what would be most helpful, sessions may include:
Conversation and reflection
Psychoeducation
Skill development
Experiential activities
Play therapy
Creative expression
Trauma-informed interventions
Cognitive and behavioral strategies
Relationship exploration
Motivational Interviewing
Problem-solving
Role-play
Mindfulness and emotional awareness
Parent consultation
Family sessions
If you feel stuck, we don't simply wait for you to figure out what to say.
We may explore what's happening beneath the surface, identify patterns, teach a skill, try something experiential, revisit your goals, or simply create space for you to process.
The approach follows the person—not the other way around.
-
There is no predetermined number of sessions at Solu.
Therapy is client-dependent.
Everyone enters therapy with different experiences, goals, resources, circumstances, and needs. Some people may benefit from a shorter period of focused support, while others may need a longer therapeutic relationship.
We will regularly revisit your goals and progress together and adjust the course of treatment as needed.
The goal isn't to keep you in therapy indefinitely.
The goal is to help you become increasingly equipped and empowered to navigate your life well.
When you are ready for less frequent sessions, a planned ending, or a break from therapy, we will talk about what that transition can look like.
And if you need to return later, reaching out again is always an option.
-
Starting therapy can feel intimidating. You don't need to know exactly what to say or how to begin.
Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, understand what brought you to counseling, discuss your goals, and determine how I can best support you.
We'll talk about:
What brings you to therapy
What has been happening in your life
Your strengths and resources
Relevant history and experiences
What you hope will change
Your goals for counseling
What you can expect from the therapeutic process
For children and adolescents, the initial process may include time with parents or caregivers so that we can understand the child's history, strengths, concerns, and family context.
Most importantly, the first session is about beginning to build a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship.

A place where you increasingly trust your ability to make meaningful choices and move toward the life and relationships you want. -
Good therapy requires more than clinical expertise.
It requires a relationship where you can be honest.
At Solu, I want you to know that you can bring the parts of your story that feel confusing, painful, frustrating, or difficult to understand.
You don't have to perform.
You don't have to have the right answers.
You don't have to pretend that everything is okay.
You can come as you are.
And together, we'll begin building a way forward.
-
You don't have to know exactly where you're going.
You just have to be willing to take the first step.
Let's build a way forward together.
We See the Person, Not the Problem.
A diagnosis or presenting concern is only one part of your story. We take time to understand the experiences, relationships, environments, strengths, and patterns that shape how you experience the world.
Therapy at Solu is a place where you can be honest about where you are without being defined by where you've been.
Let’s begin the conversation.
Not sure where to start? We’re here to help. Every person’s path is unique, and we want to ensure you find the perfect fit. Reach out with any questions, or if you're ready to dive right in, schedule a free consultation today.
